The future isn't something we inherit. It's something we build.

Across Africa, more women are choosing to build futures that look different from the ones they imagined a few years ago. Some are learning to code. Others are exploring blockchain, building businesses, transitioning into technology, or developing digital skills that simply weren't accessible a generation ago.

The ambition has never been the problem. What's often missing is access.

Access to the right tools. Access to practical education. Access to mentors and communities. Access to opportunities that help turn curiosity into confidence, and confidence into careers.

That's why Busha is partnering with Women in DeFi (WiD).

Together, we're launching Building Tomorrow Together, a partnership designed to equip more African women with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to participate in and help shape the continent's digital future.

Why this matters now

Africa has one of the world's youngest populations and one of its fastest-growing technology ecosystems. At the same time, women continue to face barriers to entering and advancing within the industries driving that growth.

The numbers tell the story.

Women account for nearly half of STEM graduates across Africa, yet they remain significantly underrepresented in technology careers. The challenge isn't a lack of talent or ambition. It's creating more pathways from education to opportunity.

Closing that gap requires more than encouraging women to pursue careers in technology. It means investing in the ecosystems that help them succeed: access to skills, financial confidence, professional networks, and communities that open doors.

That's the thinking behind Building Tomorrow Together.

Starting with opportunity

The partnership officially launched at the Women in DeFi Summit 2026 in Lagos, where five young women received laptop scholarships.

While the laptops are valuable, the greatest value is what they make possible.

Among the recipients is a pharmacy student preparing to transition into pharmacy informatics, where healthcare, technology, and data intersect. Others are building careers in design, digital finance, and technology, fields where having the right tools can be the difference between waiting for an opportunity and creating one.

The scholarship programme is built on a simple belief: when women already have the vision for the future they want, meaningful support helps them move from intention to action.

Building more than careers

The laptop scholarships mark the beginning of a broader partnership. Over the coming months, Busha and Women in DeFi will introduce programmes that support women at different stages of their journey into the digital economy.

  • Through WiD Goes to School, students will gain early exposure to careers in technology, blockchain, and digital finance, expanding what's possible before they enter the workforce.
  • The Six-Month Savings Challenge, powered by Busha's savings product, will help participants develop financial habits that support long-term goals, reinforcing the idea that building a future also means building financial resilience.
  • Participants will also have access to an Introduction to Web3 Programme, providing practical education on blockchain technology, decentralised finance, and the opportunities emerging across the global digital economy.

Each initiative serves a different purpose, but together they share the same goal: helping more women build the futures they've imagined for themselves.

Why Busha is part of this partnership

At Busha, we're building financial infrastructure for Africa's next generation.

That future should be one where more people don't just use technology—they build it. They launch businesses with it. They create careers through it. They solve problems with it.

We also know that stronger ecosystems are built by diverse communities. Today, women make up nearly half of Busha's workforce, and more than 30% of management roles are held by women. Supporting greater participation across the broader technology ecosystem is a natural extension of that belief.

As Ngozi Okonye, Head of Brand and Communications at Busha, says:

"The future of Africa's digital economy depends on the talent we invest in today. While there is no shortage of ambitious and capable women, access to the right tools, education, and opportunities often determines who gets to participate. Through this partnership with Women in DeFi, we are helping create practical pathways that enable more women to build careers, create businesses, and contribute to the industries shaping Africa's future."

The future starts today

Every career starts with learning. Every business starts with an idea.

Every opportunity starts with someone believing it's possible.

Building Tomorrow Together is our commitment to helping more women take those first steps and the many that follow.

Because the future isn't built by a single company or community alone. It's built by people who choose to invest in each other, share knowledge, create opportunities, and open doors.

We're excited to build that future with Women in DeFi, and with every woman ready to take the next step toward the future she's already imagining.

After all, the future she's building starts today.
